Region 8 Playoff Point System
1. All teams must have a minimum of 8 points in order to qualify for playoffs. These points are broken down as follows:
a. All coaches must attend a minimum of 2 Monday night referee meetings. The first meeting must be on or before October 2nd (that's next week Monday) and the second meeting must be on or before October 30th.
b. All teams must provide at least 1 brand new referee. Even if a team already has 2 experienced referees, they must still provide a brand new referee.
i) The new referee can be 12 years old or older.
ii) The new referee does not have be related to anyone on the team, but can only represent 1 team in the region.
iii) The new referee needs to complete the Regional Referee training and attend at least 2 Monday night meetings.
iv) The new referee has to do a minimum of 3 games (that's 1 point per game = 3 points after 3 games towards the 6 points required for refereeing)
c. All teams must have at least 6 referee points. Each game refereed is equal to 1 point. We encourage teams to have at least 2 referees (1 brand new and 1 experienced or 2 brand new) in order that no one person does 6 games.
d. A coach who is a referee can also referee for his/her team, but they can only get 2 points (or 2 games).
2. We are looking at doing one more Regional Referee training. As soon as I know that date, I will let you know. Please encourage someone new to become a referee and attend the training.
3. Goal differential. Any game that ends with scores showing a 6 or more goal difference will lose a point. In Region 8, we only allow a 5-goal differential. That means 7-2 is okay, but 7-1 is not. Coaches, you know means and ways to encourage your players to keep the scoring at a minimum if you see you are going to exceed the 5-goal differential. And shouting out "DO NOT SCORE ANYMORE" is not one of those ways.
REMEMBER, it does not matter if you are first or last in final stats based on game results, if you do not have the 8 points as outlined above, you will not play in playoffs. Your season will end on November 18th. I am not breaking these rules for any team.
